Nayders07 and WhatTheBuck Hit YouTube’s 789

Ta-da! Here's one of the autographs Nayders07, aka Hey Nadine, was kind enough to give us (we printed the photo from her MySpace gallery). The other autograph was next to WhatTheBuck's on the back of an official 789 Gathering postcard. Nayders, if you're reading this, we appreciate it. We eagerly await your next Blog TV broadcast, as well as your next YouTube video.

Well, on WhatTheBuck’s recommendation, we decided to check out the Saturday 7/8/09 YouTube gathering at Umpire Rock in Central Park, and we were reasonably pleased.

Firstly, we got Mr. Buck’s autograph and got to ask him about his response to one of our comments, where he said none of this season’s female finalists (even Allison!) were worthy of the “American Idol” crown.  He said nothing but good things about the lovely Ms. Iraheta and asked us if she and we were personal friends.

WhatTheBuck was actually the only YouTubist who was fashionably late (every other YouTube luminary showed up long after the noon start time) and was basically the rock star of the event, getting lost in a crush of admirers.

Our Goddess of YouTube, Nayders07, had a completely opposite experience, which shocked the hell out of us.  While everyone else crowded some jackanape whom we’d never heard of, not a single person (except for us, of course) swooned over the Canadian visitor as she approached the crowd.

The incredible Nadine was super nice, signing two autographs for us, recording a tag line for our YouTube channel and later taking a photo with us.  What also surprised us was that she was quite demure in person, as compared to the quirky vibrancy that keeps us coming back to her Blog TV shows.

All we have to say is shame on all those YouTubists who hang out in her Blog TV chat room and comment on her videos who didn’t show up to support Nayders.  If you live too far to have made it, that’s cool, but really, Nayders is too big a star to have had no one else there to greet her as she made her entrance.  Every other big-name YouTubist had a gaggle of groupies just waiting to pounce with praise and adulation.  For shame, the whole lot of you!

We didn’t stay for the whole thing, as meeting Nayders was the highpoint of the afternoon and we didn’t feel like sticking around for another 2 and a half hours just to see what other YouTubists deigned the event important enough to pop their heads in.  Saturday’s event was the culmination of 7/8/09, people!  If you couldn’t be bothered to show up until hours after it started, what was the point?

In addition to our autographs, pictures and videos, we got to take home a nifty 7/8/09 T-shirt, that read, “I attended 789 Gathering and all I got was a link in the sidebar.”  If you wanted to go, but couldn’t make it because you lived too far away or had prior engagements, you didn’t miss that much, though it was a nice day in the park.
