Leighton Meester Knows Our Type

Ms. Meester proves she deserves our exaltation by wielding a smoldering facade of subtlety and seduction right before she goes in for the kill with unflappable delight.
Well, it seems that we, here at IWONTALLOWIT.COM, aren’t hip enough to have heard of Cobra Starship, a band whose name was apparently inspired by “G.I. Joe” and Jefferson Starship. We made it our mission, however, to learn a little more about these hipsters after seeing “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester rock it out in their new video for “Good Girls Go Bad.”
The indominatable Ms. Meester, who redefines the very notion of Hollywood divinity with her raw power, confidence and charisma, spits in the face of her post-sex-tape detractors by showing her spirit was anything but dampened by the whole mess.
(The video was filmed nearly two months before her infamous monochrome hit the Web, but who really cares? Leighton never blinked and nobody really expected “Gossip Girl” fans to be shocked by that sort of thing.)
Getting back to the issue at hand, Leighton’s siren vocals made for a nice counterpoint to the lead singer’s, and you have to like any band that has a keytarist. (SPOILERS AHEAD) We also liked Leighton being revealed as a vice cop at the end of the video and breaking up the underground sex/gambling/night club or whatever the hell was going on underneath that deli.
Ms. Meester was somewhat more convincing as a vice cop than Amber Tamblyn pretending to turn tricks in the pilot episode of “The Unusuals,” but this was a music video, and we can’t get enough of Amber Tamblyn either, so we’ll cut the “Traveling Pants” star some slack.
We can’t wait for Leighton’s solo album to come out and hope it has at least a couple of tracks as high-energy as this one. We liked Ms. Meester’s rendition of “Bette Davis Eyes,” but this single proved she is capable of so much more than a forgettable cover, especially with the right producer (“American Idol’s” Kara DioGuardi and singer/songwriter Kevin Rudolf, in this case).
